Say hello to our America’s First Brick Street T-shirt! Picture this: You're playing trivia with friends when the host asks, “Which city has the FIRST brick street in the U.S.?” You throw out guesses like Boston, New York City, or Chicago. But then the host reveals the answer, “Charleston, West Virginia!” Surprised? Well, it’s true! Charleston is home to the first brick street in America, a historic milestone thanks to the innovation of Mordecai Levi Sr. (M. Levi), who first tested brick paving on Summers Street in 1870. By 1873, brick streets covered an entire block, and Levi was awarded a patent for the work in 1889. Though the original bricks of Summers Street are long gone, the street remains a vibrant part of Charleston’s history. Today, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a stroll and explore local breweries, an outdoor plaza, and unique public art. So why not commemorate this historic place with a T-shirt that celebrates it? The design honors the first brick-paved road in the nation, reminding us that Appalachia is not only known for its mountains but also its innovations.
Every creation tells a story of the mountains we call home.
